Robyn Stacey
Robyn Stacey (b. Brisbane 1952) is a Sydney-based photographic artist. As one of Australia’s most acclaimed photographers, she has exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally since the mid 1980s. Stacey’s experimental photographic practice has included hand-colouring, computer manipulation, camera obscura and lenticular imagery. Combining her interests in light and vision, her work explores the entangled relationship between photography, history, perception, and identity. Her continually evolving approach to photography personalises mechanically produced images, and illuminates the magic of seeing ourselves and the world around us.
Solo exhibitions of her work have been presented at Ray of Light, Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide (2019); As Still as Life, Monash Gallery of Art, Melbourne (2018); and Double Take, commissioned by Deutsche Bank Australia for Sydney Contemporary, Carriageworks (2017). Stacey’s recent group exhibitions include Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 to Now, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra (2021); Women We Have Known, PDNB Gallery, Dallas, Texas, (2020); Flowers. Passion. Pain. Nation, David Roche Foundation Gallery, Adelaide (2020); Dark Rooms: Women Directing the Lens 1978-98, Griffith University Art Museum, Brisbane (2018), and more.
