Paula Hyland

Paula Hyland was born in Melbourne in 1946. She studied and taught embroidery between 1975 and 1985 and participated in several group exhibitons before having her first solo show with Darren Knight Gallery, Melbourne in 1995. Her most recent exhibition, Drags 'R' Us, features portraits from the Melbourne drag scene of the early 1990s. At this time Paula Hyland and her husband Roger became regular attendees at drag shows in Melbourne where they met and befriended many of the stars and characters from this scene.

Hyland's stitched works are held in the collections of The National Gallery of Australia, Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane, Deakin University, Melbourne and Federation University Art Collection, Ballarat.
