Connie Anthes
Connie Anthes was born in 1978 and is based in Sydney, Australia. She makes paintings, objects and installations that investigate the mechanics of vision and spatial experience, often using non-traditional materials and methods to interrogate these ideas. Using process, failure and material ruptures as a means to test new ways of making images, Anthes’ works probe our perceptive limits and deliver experiences that oscillate between the cognitive and the expressive.
Connie was born in Sydney and has lived and worked in London and New York. She holds an Masters of Fine Art (Painting) from the National Art School, Sydney and a Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication, Honours First Class) from University of Technology, Sydney and Central St Martins, London. She has exhibited work in Australia, Germany and the USA and has been the recipient of a number of artist grants and residencies, both in Australia and abroad. She was a 2009/10 director of Firstdraft Gallery and is currently on the board of Runway Experimental Art Journal and the MCA Artist’s Advisory Group.
