The title of Rob McHaffie’s exhibition, Small triumph, reflects the small scale and delicate appearance of this series of watercolour and pencil works on paper. Despite their size these drawings are anything but diminutive in subject matter. McHaffie incorporates observations and fragments of conversation with vignettes of images to create a body of work which can be viewed as an extended note-to-self for the artist. Each image combines affecting emotional honesty with a playful sense of humour to create works which are at once personal and universal.

Small triumph will include this series of recent works on paper and several new sculptural pieces.

Rob McHaffie’s solo exhibitions include Painting, Gardening and Hiding, Darren Knight Gallery at silvershot, Melbourne (2007), All the trappings, Darren Knight Gallery, Sydney (2006) and Crumpled Date Paintings, MOP Project Space, Sydney (2004).
